Absolutely. It is common and totally appropriate for your dog to have a collar and leash on for outdoor photos. I care about your pet’s safety above anything else. The great part? Leashes and collars can be edited out of the photo during retouching. When participating in a studio session, there truly is no need for a leash or collar unless you desire them to be in the images. Please do not worry yourself about using a leash to hold your dog back from giving kisses or investigating me! That is okay and if you are nervous, we can take our time with introducing myself to your pup. There’s no problem with that whatsoever.

I appreciate the question! Wall art is something that I take very seriously, as it is the physical representation of both my photography and my motto, “your pet is art.” My favorite way to describe this situation is similar to the professional photography experience which you’re already familiar with.
For example, you likely have a phone which is capable of taking “nice” photos. Still, it is well understood that contacting a photographer is necessary when serious quality and retouching is involved for a special occasion. That’s where I come in! The situation is quite the same when having prints made. Can you technically take your digital photo files to a box store or random online vendor for printing? Yes, but these images of your pet are certainly worth more than what the results of that will produce.
If you have professional photos, it’s worthwhile to obtain professional prints which are worthy of honoring your pet! When your online gallery is delivered, you have the opportunity to purchase prints directly. These will come from a professional lab which I personally have experience with and recommend. I have verified that their printers produce images consistent with my calibrated editing monitor and more.

I’d love to photograph you with your pet! That connection is beautiful and it has always been my honor to capture. More than one pet? Sounds fun to me! We can photograph up to two of your pets during a single session. Any more than two, and handling/coordination can detract from the experience… and I want you to have a variety of photos for each pet!

I prioritize working at your dog’s pace, allowing for rest breaks when needed, time to drink water and try poses, and having a comfortable walk from one area to the next. Due to the beautiful uniqueness of each dog, I find that there’s a general range of session times which vary from 1-2+ hours.
This isn’t to say that a dog requiring a 1-hour photo session will receive any less of an experience! I just simply want everyone to feel welcomed and not be nervous about their pup… which means that I happily accept clients who require more time for the same professional results!
This truly is an important point (and one which separates Top Breed Pet Photography from the competition). Many photographers will try fitting every client into the same amount of time… venturing as low as 15-30 minutes! I gladly work with your dog until everything is right.
